We're so sorry you weren't able to join us for the visit to the public library. I hope you will visit your public library soon and see the many resources it has to offer. Aside from books, public libraries have DVDs, music CDs, audiobooks, videogames, and much, much more. And the Blauvelt Library even has a beautiful cat named Moxie!
The summer reading list is almost ready! Did you know that the best way to become a better reader is to read?
Better readers get better grades in all of their academic subjects.
But recognizing that many high school students don't LIKE to read, schools, libraries, book stores, and other organizations that promote reading compile lists for RELUCTANT READERS. These books tend to be high interest page turners.
Your assignment:
1. Take a look at the 2014 Top Ten Books for Reluctant Young Adult Readers provided by the American Library Association.
2. Login to NoveList Plus (from the library webpage). If you are doing this at home, you will need to provide a username and password. The username is tzhs and the password is student. Now look up the books you selected in step 1, above. For each book you selected, read at least two professional reviews (from Publisher's Weekly, Library Journal, Kirkus, or Booklist) and one 4 or 5 star review from GoodReads (which can be found under the picture of the cover of the book). Using the form provided, summarize the review. Then, fill out the remainder of the form.
3. Obtain the book. Does your local library have the book(s) you are interested in? Go to your home library via the rcls.org webpage and reserve the first of the three books you selected to start your summer reading early! Follow these steps
